Guests have a private garden space that will not be used by anyone else during your stay and you are also welcome to share the full garden with us if wanted.
Seasonal vegetables and fruit can be picked by request.
Access to a washing machine is also by request, and to a dryer for a small fee (there is an outdoor washing line exclusively for the guest’s use, and a number of washing lines inside the polytunnel that you are welcome to use in wet weather!).
Location
We are situated 2 kilometers from the lovely village of Whitegate, which has two excellent grocery shops and an exceptional bar/restaurant. There are no taxi services locally but there is a local link TFI bus (route 344) between Whitegate and Ennis four times daily which can be hailed from near the top of the road (10-12 min walk). If wished and by prior arrangement, lifts to and from Whitegate and Mountshannon can be provided.
A 10 to 15 minute walk from the guest house on a quiet country road, you will arrive at the lake shore to the beautiful Meelick Bay (Whitegate beach), which is a safe swimming and picnic area, and a perfect spot to launch kayaks or paddle boards for a leisurely paddle around the multitude of inlets and islands close by. Be prepared though – the lake is capable of blowing up a storm at short notice and life-jackets are not provided here. Please bring your own if you are bringing boards or boats.
Many walking routes are easily accessed from here including the entire East Clare Way for serious walkers, and a number of pretty and accessible walking circuits close by. There is a beautiful 5 km circuit from the guest house which takes approximately 50 minutes, not much of which is on the main road. Route maps and advice available on request.
Things to note
Please note that all sleeping arrangements are upstairs and unfortunately this cannot be reconfigured. If the sofa bed is to be made up, please request this at booking.
There is a wild honey bee colony living in the roof of the guest house! They have been there for over 10 years and are very docile. We don’t bother them and they don’t bother us, but guests who are afraid of bees or allergic should take this into consideration
2 of the 6(!) cats are super friendly and love beds, food and company more than anything else in the world. They are not allowed on beds and will eat your food if let. Please make every gentle effort to keep them out of the guest house!
